Merino prices improve
Prices improved at the Blenheim Merino fair compared with last year’s sale. Most of the yarding comprised annual draft wethers from the stations in the Awatere and Wairau valleys. Most buyers came from Blenheim and North Canterbury with a few from the North Island. Sales included:— Young sheep: W. R. Inder (Blenheim), 110 wether hoggets at $26 to $31.50; Rosmore Estate (Awatere Valley), 109 ewe hoggets at $20.50 to $27, 60 wethers at • $3l; B. F. Calder (Hartley Hills), 19 ewe hoggets at $35.50, 23 wethers at $34; Leathern Run (Wairau Valley), 42 wether hoggets at $25.50, 39 ewes at $26; R. and S. Small (The Haylocks), 113 one shear wethers at $4O, 45 two-shear wethers at $40.50; R. C. Heard (Wairewa), 86 four-tooth ewes at $21.50; M. J. and B. L. Guerin (Grassmere), 292 wether hoggets at $31.25 to $37.50; Hawkswood Vineyards, 136 wether hoggets at $3l. Annual draft wethers: R. and S. Small (Haylocks), 364 at $34, 100 mixed aged at $3B; M. E. Giles (Ramshead), 189 at $29.50 to $29.75; Muller station (Awatere Valley), 360 at $33.75 to $34; F. W. Fronting (Camden), 250 at $28.75; Rosmore Estate (Awatere Valley), 272 to $26.25; B. F. Calder (Hartley Hills), 17 mixed ’ aged wethers at $40.50; Lancorp (Glazebrook), 84 Polwarth Merino-cross wethers at $2O; L. M. and S. H. R. Harvey (Glen Orkney), 244 at $25 to $28.25; J. L. and J. A. Cooper (Black Birch), 183 Polwarth wethers at $14.50 to $l6; E. R. and C. J. Beech (Stronsay), 90 at $29; T. J. and S. J. Wadsworth (Aschworth), 247 at $3B to $42.50.
