Puppets tour

The New Zealand Puppet Theatre is touring South Island primary and intermediate schools this month with a Theatre-in-Education show, "Puppet Power.” The puppeteers show how to create a variety of puppets, which are then brought to life. Starting with their bare hands, the puppeteers move from finger puppets to gloved hands to hand puppets, marionettes and shadow puppets, building as they perform from junk and other simple materials.

The tour includes schools in Christchurch, Ashburton, Twizel, Nelson and the West Coast. The New Zealand Puppet Theatre is a professional theatre company. Established in 1984 with sponsorship from United Building Society, the theatre tours full time to schools, as well as performing holiday shows, holding classes and workshops, and being resident artists in hospitals.
