Women best Beehive bosses
PA Wellington Anyone looking for a job in the Beehive should go to Ms Helen Clark or Mrs Annette King. The Deputy Prime Minister and the Employment Minister pay the best salaries — even more than the Prime Minister does. Forget Mr Douglas. The Police Minister’s staff get even less than those who work for under-secre-taries, Ms Clark has 14 staff earning an average of $39,788 a year. Mrs King is a close second best. Her eight average $39,750. Then comes the Minister of Local Government, Dr Michael Bassett. He also has eight dn an average $39,625.
The Prime Minister, Mr Palmer, has 22, more than anyone else in the Cabinet, but he pays them an average $36,952 and ranks eleventh on the generosity list. Things get gradually worse, going down the list of 28 Ministers and under-secretaries.
Right at the bottom is Mr Douglas. His six staff get an average of $29,500, the only ones below the $30,000 mark. These facts and figures were by courtesy of the Opposition spokeswoman, on finance, Miss Ruth Richardson, who got them under the Official Information Act.
