Christchurch’s Mayor will be known as Madam Mayor. Ms Vicki Buck said last evening she was happy with Madam Mayor as a form of address. She preferred Madam Mayor to the suggested Ms Mayor.
Christchurch’s new Mayor, Ms Vicki
Buck, is looking forward to “a wonderfully exciting time” in the next few years as the new city develops. She was speaking at the opening of the new Linwood Service. Centre yesterday, her first official duty as Mayor. Ms Buck said she wanted to ensure that people throughout Christchurch knew how to contact the council, to get
their ideas across and to solve problems. The Linwood centre was the first of three new centres to be opened. Existing council offices also began running as service centres yesterday, the first day of the new Christchurch city. The centres will provide all council services, including payment of accounts, rates inquiries, dog registration, and town planning and building applications and inquiries.
