Guineas has new sponsor
TVNZ is to take over the sponsorship of the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas, to be run at Riccarton next Wednesday. The race was formerly sponsored by the Cambridge Stud, which has transferred its sponsorship to the Churchill Stakes, the 1600 m feature on the second day of the Riccarton cup carnival. Mr Ossie Brown, of Linwood City Mall, has taken over the sponsorship of the Canterbury Gold Cup for the next three years. The announcement of the new TVNZ sponsorship was made at a function at Riccarton yesterday. “Mr Patrick Hogan, of Cambridge Stud, has been a grand supporter of South Island racing in general and the Guineas in particular. But he has always been quite happy to shift his emphasis to other areas should another sponsor be forthcoming,” said the C.J.C. chairman, John Austin. The TVNZ Two Thousand Guineas stake will remain at $200,000.
