Super Fiesta, Cicatrix in order

Super Fiesta and Cicatrix, two leading hopes for the Two Thousand Guineas next Wednesday, have settled in well since arriving at Riccarton earlier in the week. Both three-year-olds are expected to gallop solidly this morning in preparation for their Riccarton debuts on Saturday, which will serve as a lead-up to the Guineas. Super Fiesta is in the care of part-trainer Stephen McKee and Cicatrix, a member of
Laurie Laxon’s team, is being looked after by John Allfrey, who is no stranger to success at Riccarton. Allfrey was at the cup meeting two years ago caring for the champion stayer, Empire Rose, Weston Lea and Finezza Belie. Empire Rose won the New Zealand Cup; the oustanding but ill-fated Weston Lea the Two Thousand Guineas and Finezza Belle won a supporting event McKee was last here in 1985 when Blue Kingdom ran in the
Two Thousand Guineas won by Random Chance. Super Fiesta and Cicatrix should fire up to their best form on firmer tracks than they have faced recently. Super Fiesta, a descendant of the good mare, Roaming, was one of the best two-year-olds in the country last season, his second win being in the Radio Pacific Sires’ Produce Stakes at Ellerslie at Easter. He has struck heavy ground this spring and has not been able to fire in it His luck has not been on the bright side
either. Cicatrix, one of the growing band of winners by Centaine, has also found heavy tracks against him. The best track he has struck in his career, so far, was in the Wanganui Guineas, when he ran third to Bugatti. He dropped out from a handy spot in the Wrightson Guineas run on a heavy track, but ran third in bad conditions at Rotorua. Cicatrix was to be ridden by Chris Johnson, but the Riccarton rider is unable to make the weight
