Stepping down
Russell Boyd, a long-serving executive member of the Canterbury Jockey Club, has resigned his position because of pressures of work. Mr Boyd, also a successful owner of horses over a lengthy period, has been the treasurer of the club since 1977 and a member for more than 25 years. “Russell has been an excellent treasurer. He has always been astute in financial matters and a great supporter of club activities,” said John Austin, the C.J.C. chairman, yesterday. “We regret the loss of his sendees, but hope he will continue to play an important role in the club.” Mr Boyd is a long-time supporter of racing in Canterbury. Besides his administrative activities, he has owned several well-known gallopers, including Aramis, Ariage, Crepe de Chine and Aramist. Mr Boyd, one of the longest-serving C.J.C. administrators, is to be succeeded by George Ritchie, the South Island financial controller of Wrightsons.
