South Africa
Sir,—l note that Mr Hawke (October 21), wants the South African Government to, among other things, free all “political prisoners” and end hanging for all “political crimes.” These people are terrorists, jailed for treason, a capital offence punishable by death in many, including Commonwealth, countries. The same report states: “The sanctions have not been designed to bring South Africa to its knees...” It appears that our Mr Palmer is in general agreement with him. Who do they think they are fooling? Why do they not take action against China, Zimbabwe, and a host of other countries where wholesale slaughter takes place without even the benefit of a trial? Quite obviously they will not be satisfied until black rule is established in the most civilised country in Africa. Having seen the results, we all know what this means — corruption, torture, imprisonment without trial, inefficiency, bankruptcy, etc. This is apparently the main object of C.H.O.G.M. — Yours, etc., L. R. WILKINSON. October 21, 1989.
