Harris moves south

Canterbury’s loss is Southland’s gain when a St Albans batsman, Ben Harris, moves south today to continue his cricketing career. Harris, aged 25, will play in the Southland competition and will be a leading contender for the Otago Shell series team. Southland is the holder of the Hawke Cup and Harris has already been picked for that squad. Last year he scored a century for Canterbury B at Queen’s Park in Invercargill so will be familiar with the association’s headquarters. Two seasons ago Harris scored 1000 runs in club cricket for St Albans and last year in his debut for Canterbury he made 45 against Pakistan. However when the Canterbury Shell squad was named last Saturday Harris was a surprise omission from the 20 players. Harris will be coaching in the Southland region.
