Franking to be paid in advance
Businesses will soon have to pay in advance for postage used in automatic stamping machines. From January 1 next year the issue of new licences would be restricted to franking machines with special credit locking meters, said the district manager of New Zealand Post, Mr Pat Nicholas. Most existing machines simply recorded the amount of postage as they stamped mail, with payment on a monthly basis. The change will enable the use in New Zealand of international franking machines. From April 1, 1991, only franking machines with the credit locking device will be able to be used.
