Minister to attend
The Minister of Employment, Mrs King, will attend the Christchurch Academy graduation ceremony as part of its open day this Saturday. The open day runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the McLeans Mansion headquarters of the academy. This is the large grey turn-of-the century house
at 387 Manchester Street, not far from the Bealey Avenue intersection on the city side. At present 218 trainees on 14 courses are working at the site and they will all be working on the day. A lot of activities are planned for the day, with all the modules actually working. Among the demonstrations will be the stone masonry trainees doing a barbecue and block wall, the caretaker/handypersons demonstrating how to make a fence and
sharpen tools, the production electronics people working on an LED display and the performing arts team in action. The hairdressers will be giving practical demonstrations and there will be a creche for visitors, organised by the home nursing course. Visitors will be given a map of the academy and grounds with a suggested route marked on it, but they will be free to wander around at their own pace and watch the academy at work.
