Appeal fails
A written explanation of the finding over an appeal lodged on behalf of the Riccarton horseman, Chris Johnson, against a suspension incurred on Godsin at Riccarton on May 13 is expected to be released tomorrow. The appeal, to a Conference tribunal, was heard in Wellington on Friday and dismissed. It is understood heavy costs were awarded against the appellant Johnson was suspended for three riding days after a charge of careless riding on Godsin at the Hororata meeting on May 13. An appeal to a Canterbury district committee sub-committee in June failed and Johnson served out his suspension. Last week’s appeal, conducted by Johnson’s counsel, Mr Brian Kinley, addressed legal aspects of the case. The finding has no effect on Johnson’s riding engagements.
