Increased entries at Rangiora show

Increased entries in all livestock section’s of the Northern Agriculture and Pastoral Show at Rangiora were a true reflection of the good weather North Canterbury had experienced in the last six weeks, said the association president, Mr lan Stevenson. The extensive drought experienced by the Canterbury region last year had resulted in a slight drop in both quality and entries of stock. Fanners had managed, however, to produce some of their best stock for this year’s show, he said. The judge of the wool section, Mr Peter McCusker, of Christchurch, said the entries were of a high quality given the season, with a very good merino entry. "The champion fleece was a fine example of the breed," he said. Gate takings on Saturday, the first day of the show, totalled $B7OO, an increase of about $7OO on last year.
