Golf placing marks Christie’s birthday
Tony Christie, of Canterbury, celebrated his twentieth birthday on Saturday by helping New Zealand to second place in the Pacific amateur teams’ golf championship at the Kasumigaseki course in Japan. Christie had a spec-
tacular international senior debut, finishing second in the individual standings to Lester Peterson (Australia), the man who beat him in the final of the New Zealand matchplay championship, The outstanding form of Christie and the solid
showing of another junior golfer, Steven Alker, of Hamilton, kept New Zealand ahead of Japan and Canada, but it could not bridge the gap to the Australians in the final round. Final team scores:—Australia, 891, 1; New Zealand,
