New director named for U.S. Olympic Committee
NZPA-AP Denver The United States Olympic Committee forced out its director yesterday in spite of objections from some members. Mr Harvey Schiller, the commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, a college football organisation, was named to replace Mr Baaron Pittenger as the.
executive director of the Olympic Committee, which oversees the training of American athletes. The U.S.O.C. executive board, assembled in Denver ■ for three days of meetings over the week-end, approved Mr Schiller’s appointment by a voice vote after a few members expressed disappointment or anger at Mr
Pittenger’s departure. Mr Pittenger will remain with the Olympic Committee as a “special consultant,” in charge of implementing a Soviet-American drug-testing programme he helped negotiate in Moscow this month. He expressed disappointment in his farewell address.
