Cocaine found in farm raid
NZPA-Reuter Bogota Police said on Saturday they had seized over a tonne of cocaine and arrested two more Colombians sought on drug smuggling charges in the United States. The cocaine, one of the biggest hauls in Colombia’s two-month-old crackdown on drug trafficking, was discovered during a raid on a farm 280 km north of Bogota on Friday, they said. Along with the cocaine, estimated to have a street value of SUS4O million ($6B million), the police said they found a subma-chine-gun, two pistols and
SUSIIO,OOO. No arrests were made.
Earlier the police said they had arrested two more Colombians sought on U.S. drug smuggling charges, bringing to four the number seized in the past 24 hours.
Diana Caballero Rangel and her brother, Roberto Caballero Rangel were captured early on Friday in the town of Bucaramanga, 320 km northeast of Bogota.
Their arrest brings to 10 the number of drug suspects being held for possible extradition to the United States.
The Government has extradited four accused traffickers since launching a big drug crackdown two months ago.
But none of them are on the 12 “most-wanted” list of traffickers that the United States gave to Colombia after the crackdown began.
The drug lords have reacted with a wave of killings and bombings in which over a dozen people have died. Six people were hurt on Friday when a car bomb exploded outside a hotel in the Caribbean resort town of Barranquilla, 1200 km north of the capital.
