Gang link probed

By

BARRY CLARKE

Detectives are considering a possibility that a gang element may be involved in the three armed robberies in Christchurch last week. Several city addresses were searched on Friday, including houses belonging to gang members and their associates. No positive leads were uncovered, but lines of inquiry being followed might turn up some information, said Detective

Senior-Sergeant Alan Dalzell, yesterday. Armed men held up the ANZ Bank, Addington, and a Securitas van in New Brighton on Monday, and Trust Bank’s Linwood branch in Stanmore Road on Friday.

The police had no evidence that they were linked, but the description of the offenders and their demeanour indicated the robberies could be gang related, said Detective Senior-Sergeant Dalzell.
