Taxi driver’s body found
PA Wellington The New Plymouth police have identified a body found in deep water in a scenic reserve yesterday as that of a Waitara taxi driver, Mr Te Tuiri Kihi. Mr Kihi’s body was found at the Meeting of the Waters reserve about skm south of New Plymouth. Senior-Sergeant Paul Brennan said last evening that a postmortem was under way but its findings would not be released until today. Earlier yesterday the police said they were treating the
disappearance of Mr Kihi, aged
disappearance of Mr Kihi, aged 55, as a homicide inquiry, but no arrests have been made. The police said Mr Kihi was last heard from about 6.05 p.m. on Thursday when his office received a garbled radio message. An hour later a Ministry of Transport officer stopped his car in New Plymouth. Two men appeared in court yesterday charged with unlawfully taking the vehicle but entered no plea. The police said the river search was a result of information from the public.
