Freedom ride cut short.
The escape of a Kingslea Girls’ Home resident from a camp in the Lewis Pass on Thursday was cut short by an empty petrol tank in the vehicle she drove off in. The girl, aged 14, drove away in a van which had taken her and several other residents to the pass. The supervisors were unhitching a trailer when the girl made her escape. She was found about 60km down the road without fuel with five other residents who had been in ■ the vehicle when “she ’ took off. if* / ’ ■ ;
