DIRECTOR Parent Advocacy Council The Parent Advocacy Council (PAC) is a new statutory organisation, established to promote the interests of parents at all levels of education. The Council is an agency of last resort, and does not become involved with complaints about day-to-day concerns, but rather with systemic problems experienced by parents. The Head Office of the Council will be located in Wellington, but it is envisaged that the Council will have small sub-offices in other centres. The Council has a budget of about $1 million. The Director will be responsible for: • providing investigatory, policy and administrative services to assist the Council to achieve its statutory obligations • ensuring the efficient administration and control of financial and other resources of the PAC • public relations and providing information services to clients • managing the staff of the PAC Secretariat The chosen applicant will have: • demonstrated highly developed oral and written communication • public relations skills and the ability to relate effectively to a wide range of people • sound management skills to establish adequate management information and operating systems and to motivate and direct staff • demonstrated analytical investigation skills • demonstrated ability to provide strong and effective leadership to staff • an understanding of and commitment to the principles of education reform, equal educational opportunities and the Treaty of Waitangi • an understanding of policy advice and investigatory work, particularly as it pertains to the investigation of complaints and policy advice on education matters. This position is on contract and salary and conditions of employment are negotiable. It is envisaged that the salary would be between $50,000 - $70,000.
