Manson set to return
Canterbury’s first heart and lung transplant patient, Mr Roger Manson, has been given a medical clearance to return home in two weeks. The Roger Manson fund-raising appeal co-ordinator, Mr George Scrimshaw, said yesterday that doctors at Harefield Hospital, London, had given Mr Manson a medical clearance. “He hopes to be home in the first week of November and is looking forward to a New Zealand summer and Christmas with the family.”
Doctors had been monitoring Mr Manson’s progress closely since he suffered rejection in August, after being given his new heart and lungs on June 21. Mr Scrimshaw said he had spoken to Mr Manson and his wife, Mrs Rae Manson, by telephone yesterday. Mr Manson still spoke with a whisper from the effects of the transplant and might have to have minor surgery on his return. ■ “But apart from that he is getting stronger every day,” said Mr Scrimshaw.
