Royal tour ‘trailblazer’
The Prime Minister, Mr Palmer, met the Queen yesterday to discuss final arrangement for her visit to New Zealand early next year. Mr Palmer said the tour would be a long one, with the Queen residing in New Zealand rather than staying on the royal yacht Britannia.
“It’s something, I think, of a trailblazer in terms of a new style of Royal
visit.” He said the visit recognised that 1990 was a special year for New Zealand, which is marking the 150th anniversary of the Treaty of Waitangi, and hosting the Commonwealth Games.
