Appeal total down
PA Wellington The Save the Children Fund appeal raised $430,000 with another $270,000 in postal donations expected over the next few weeks, the organisation said yesterday. The fund had hoped to collect $BOO,OOO this year, but the executive officer, Mr John Bowis, said the lower total was still $60,000 above the 1987 total.
“While it’s down on the high total we had last year, that was probably due to the fact we had a major disaster in Bangladesh with severe flooding,” he said. “It’s always hard to predict what effect something like that had.”
Mr Bowis said all the money would go to longterm development projects. '
