Voters confused
Voters in next month’s local body elections are confused about the electoral areas in which they live, says a Canterbury Regional Council candidate, Ms Di Lucas.
Candidates campaigning for votes were finding many people did not know there were two councils — a regional and a district or city council — for which they had a vote, she said.
The new names for district council wards and regional council constituencies were adding to the confusion. Voters should not assume wards or constituencies had the same boundaries as Parliamentary electorates which might have the same name. They should check with their local authority office, which would have boundary maps, Ms Lucas said.
