Southland defeated
PA Invercargill Southland received a taste of first division rugby North Harbourstyle in perfect conditions yesterday, but was left licking its wounds following a 54-12 defeat. North Harbour scored two first half tries and with a Frano Botica conversion went to the break ahead 10-9. In the second half, the big North Harbour pack blew the makeshift Southland scrum apart. Scorers:—North Harbour 54 (Wayne Shelford, Mark Anscombe, Paul Carlton, Scott Pierce, Allan Pollock, lan Wood, Frano Botica, Craig Burgess, Glen McGahan, Richard Turner tries; Botica six conversions, Pierce conversion) beat Southland 12 (Eion Crossan four penalty goals). • Scoring 11 tries to one, Wanganui collected the highest score of the 1988 national third division championship rugby season with a runaway, 58-15, victory over Buller at Spriggens Park in Wanganui yesterday. The entire Wanganui backline shared in the try action.
