Activist waits for meeting
PA Wellington An unemployment activist, Jane Stevens, did not visit the Prime Minister, Mr Palmer, yesterday as expected. Ms Stevens, a former Unemployed Workers’ Union spokeswoman who became prominent during the 1984 economic summit, said on Monday she
would meet Mr Palmer yesterday. She wanted to keep him to promises she said were made five years ago. “I want to hear it from the horse’s mouth whether the Government is prepared to take a, much more caring attitude toward people instead of money,” she said.
But a spokeswoman ' from Mr Palmer’s office said yesterday the meeting did not go ahead. The letter requesting the meeting was received only on Monday “and it takes longer than one day to arrange a meeting with the Prime Minister.” The pair now have an appointment to meet on Tuesday.
