Avonside girls top French exams
Avonside Girls’ High School was the top school in the Canterbury area in the Alliance Francaise oral French examinations held in July. About 30 schools took part in the examinations, which have been held annually in Christchurch for about 60 years. Alliance Francaise is based in Paris and has about 1100 branches world-wide.
Rangi Ruru Girls’ School took the second prize for schools and
Burnside High School came third. Other results were:— Form 5: Deborah Steere (Avonside Girls’ High School) 1; Elwyn Clements (Burnside High School) 2; Emma Standring (Avonside Girls’ High School) 3. Form 6: James Foulds (Christ’s College) 1; Fayen Wong (St Margaret’s College) 2; Kathryn Hindmarsh (Rangi Ruru Girls’ School) 3. Form 7: Vanessa Tedesco (Linwood High School) 1; Andrew Billing (Christchurch Boys’ High School) 2; Emma Hamilton (Rangi Ruru Girls’ School) 3.
