PA Wellington Parliament resumed yesterday at 9 a.m. under urgency. The House continued the in-committee stages of the Waterfront Industry Restructuring Bill. The bill was reported back to the House where it was given its third reading. Parliament adjourned at 10.45 a.m.

Mr Stan Rodger (Lab., Dunedin Nth) presented a petition of Kathleen Dawson and 19 others asking for legislation requiring employers to provide smoke-free workplaces. Mr Colin Moyle (Lab., Otara) presented one from Elizabeth Rose and five others recommending that the Government abandon the Anzac frigate project. Mr Bill Dillon (Lab., Hamilton East) presented one from Jo Thompson and 10 others asking for legislation requiring employers to provide smoke-free workplaces. Ms Elizabeth Tennet (Lab., Island Bay) presented a petition from Steve Davis of Island Bay asking that the Government not pass legisla-/

tion allowing the operation of casinos. Mr Richard Northey (Lab., Eden) presented one from Vaotane Unasa-Samoa Saleupola of Epsom and 95 others asking that the Government not pass legislation allowing the operation of casinos. Ministers answered six questions. Ministers replied to 14 questions for oral answer before M.P.s began the twohour general debate.

At the conclusion of the general debate, Mr Bill Dillon (Lab., Hamilton East) presented the report of the justice and law reform select committee on the Ellen Harriet Eames Estate Bill, which was set down for a second reading. The member of Parliament for Onehunga, Mr Fred Ger-

bic, moved the introduction of the Cornwall Park Bylaws Empowering Bill. Debate was interrupted when the House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. Resuming at 7.30 p.m. the bill was referred to the Justice and Law Reform Select Committee. Debate then continued on the interrupted second reading of the State-Owned Enterprises (Interests of Commun-, ity) Amendment Bill. Introduction was lost on division by 32 votes to 38. Mr Wyatt Creech (Nat., Wairarapa) then moved the introduction of the Local Government (Wairarapa, Marlborough and South Canterbury) Bill. Debate was interrupted when the House adjourned at 10.30 p.m.
