Birdies carry Higgens to win
PA Auckland Back-to-back birdies yesterday carried Hamilton’s Sheree Higgens to a second-round win over Tracey Hanson (Hutt) in the Auckland provincial women’s golf championships. Hanson and Higgens are team-mates in the New Zealand team for the Tasman Cup clash against Australia in Perth next week. They had an even struggle at the Grange
until the fourteenth green where Hanson missed a short putt which would have made her one up. Higgens responded with a birdie two at the fif-, teenth and rolled in a long putt , for a birdie. three at’/'the _ Hanson, who had comfort- ' able pars on both those holes, suddenly found herself dormie. She had tree trouble on the seventeenth, and Higgens was able to win the match despite .having a
bogey. In the semi-finals today Higgens will play another team-mate, Liz Douglas (Christchurch), who defeated the local veteran, Annette Laing, in the second round.
