Jockey fees rise Jockeys have secured a rise of $5 in riding fees as from October 1 after discussions with the New Zealand Racing Conference in Christchurch on Monday. The losing fee for a flat race will rise from $55 to $6O and for a jumps jockey from $7O to $75. The Jockeys’ Association and the Conference also agreed on an annual review of riding fees in April of each season, with any adjustments operating from August 1 each year. The last increase was in December, 1987, and the time which has elapsed since then and the rise in a rider’s expenses were factors taken into account in the Conference decision. Race deleted The proposed three-year-old pacing event scheduled for the first night of the New Brighton Hamess Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday was deleted due to a lack of acceptors. Nine three-year-olds were nominated for the event, with only five likely to start.
