Wages rise 4.1%
Wellington reporter Full-time wages and salaries rose an average of 4.1 per cent in the year ending in June, according to the Statistics Department’s prevailing weekly wage rates index. The index measures changes in the average level of ordinary-time
wage and salary rates actually paid to full-time adult employees. According to the index, private sector wages and salaries rose 3.9 per cent; rates.in the local authority sector rose 6 per cent; and those in the central government sector increased 4.2 per cent. Increases from both the 1987-88 and 1988-89 wage rounds were measured in the index, but the proportion of the increases measured in this period applying to each round was different for each sector.
This is because the payout dates of increases vary substantially between the sectors.
