Favoured cueists win
PA Wellington The tournament favourites at the national billiards championships posted a series of top class performances on Tuesday night. The first section play round saw the top seven seeds in action, and all posted convincing victories with five century breaks being recorded. The biggest winner of the day was the fifth seed, Darcy Boyce, from Waikato, who scored the mammoth total of 928 points in his two-hour match against Wellington’s Paul Blackaby, who managed 260. Boyce scored breaks of 71, 54, 71 and 107.
The tournament favourite, Dave Meredith from Canterbury, also maintained a cracking pace, winning his two matches 819-345 and 727346. His second win was over the talented North Otago champion, John Reid, and included breaks of 50, 53, 78, 76, 97, 69 and the tourna-
ment’s' highest 132. Meredith had also scored two 110 breaks in his earlier match. Results.—
