Foundation launched
The Nurse Maude Foundation was officially launched yesterday by the Department of Health programme manager for the elderly, disabled and handicapped, Dr Margaret Guthrie, at a function in the Nurse Maude Memorial Hospital in Merivale.
As well as Dr Guthrie, speakers included Tom Grigg, the chairman of the Canterbury Area Health Board, and Mr Colin Averill, the chairman of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association’s board.
Other guests included representatives of numerous medical and health organisations in Canter-
bury, community groups, commercial companies and others with an active interest in the work of Nurse Maude.
Also present were representatives of the Friends of Nurse Maude, a voluntary organisation whose members contribute their efforts towards fund raising and supporting the association’s work in the community. A special guest at the function was Miss Elsie Browne, a patient at the hospital who recently celebrated her one hundredth birthday.
Miss Browne was a personal friend of Nurse Maudes’ and worked with her as a community nurse 75 years ago.
