Attempted strangling

PA Auckland A Sandringham woman had to be given mouth-to-nose resuscitation by her father after her former husband tried to strangle her, the High Court at Auckland was told. Jean Yves Edduard Roger Vincent, aged 38, unemployed, of Brisbane, was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday of attempting to murder Brenda Joyce Speight on November 26. Mr Graeme Speight told the two-day trial before Mr Justice Thorp that he went to his daughter’s house after 10 p.m. when her son, aged eight, arrived at his house to say she was ill. He and his wife found Ms Speight on the floor in the spare bedroom. Ms Speight gave evidence on Monday to the Court about the attack. A doctor who examined the woman at Auckland Hospital within hours told the Court her injuries were consistent with a strangling. Mr Justice Thorp remanded Vincent to September 26 for sentencing.
