Payroll staff consider offers
Payroll staff from the Secondary Schools’ Council and Canterbury Education Board are considering job offers from the education service group which won the payroll contract from them.
Last Tuesday, Pro-Ed, the service group which sprang from the Education Department, was awarded substantial twoyear payroll and transport services contracts.
Pro-Ed is expected to announce soon the people it will employ to fulfil its contractual obligations. The general manager of the Secondary School’s Council, Mr John Masters, said he still found it difficult to understand the reasoning behind the removal of the payroll service from the council. The council had installed a $200,000 computer four weeks ago and its staff were experienced at handling the complex work involved in paying secondary and tertiary teacher salaries.
