Fire alert at hospital
A small fire in a storeroom caused an alert at a geriatric hospital in Ham yesterday. Three fire engines were called to St Nicolas’s Hospital in Kirwood Avenue shortly before 5 p.m. A fire safety officer, Mr Mark Sullivan, said the fire had been caused by carelessness. The fire alarm system and hospital evacuation procedures worked well during the alert, as did staff. The storeroom suffered only scorching. Patients were moved away from the area of the fire until it was put out.
