Fears for safety of pair
PA Wellington An Upper Hutt woman and her two-year-old son have been missing since Monday, and the police say they are concerned for their safety. Senior-Sergeant Ted Jordan, of Upper Hutt, said Mrs Jill Cunningham, aged 31, left her Totara Park home at 9.30 a.m. on Monday with her son. She was to' drive to Carterton to meet a former friend to sort out a personal dispute.
Mrs Cunningham was expected home by 5 p.m., but apart from a distressed telephone call soon after midnight her husband and family have not seen or heard from her since.
. “We are very concerned for Mrs Cunningham’s safety and for that of her child,” Senior-Ser-gfeant Jordan said.
“We know threats have been made against her and her family in the past, and we want to know she is all right.”
The police believe Mrs Cunningham arrived safely in Carterton, but left the town on Monday night with her child. A man was also in the car, but Mrs Cunningham was driving. At 12.30 a.m. yesterday Mrs Cunningham rang her husband and said she and their son were fine. She sounded very upset, however, and would not say where she was.
She said she would call again in the morning, but has not made any further contact.
