Few burn on coals

People who chose to warm their feet on Saturday evening by walking over hot coals at the Skeptics Conference did not suffer as many burns as organisers expected. The hot trot was designed to show that the laws of physics and not more mysterious factors enabled people to walk over hot stones. The organiser of the event, Dr Denis Dutton, said of 67 people polled after walking over the coals only 11 had minor burns or blisters. This represented less than the burn incidence of 20 per cent organisers had estimated, he said.
