Captain seeking hold on Goals
By
KAY FORRESTER
Captain John Probert, who resigned as a Going for Goals group leader, says the next step in the Goals process should be put on hold until after October’s local body elections. He believes the Goals core executive should wait until the new Christchurch City Council is elected. “Because the incoming administration must be the key in the ongoing momentum, I am saying, put on hold the next phase involving moral contracts until the next administration is in place.” Captain Probert, the public relations officer for the Salvation Army, withdrew as group leader of the education group last week. He said his decision to withdraw until after the elections had been misunderstood. It was inevitable that some of those involved in Going for Goals would be candidates in the elections and it was their right to seek endorsement for their past achievements including Going for Goals. His concern was that goals announced needed finetuning and decisions had to be made about their implementation. He suggested this would be best done when the new administration was known.
