Dyson ‘must be dreaming’
PA Wellington The Opposition leader, Mr Jim Bolger, has accused the Labour Party president, Ms Ruth Dyson, of “living in dreamland” if she thinks the Budget was a good one. Responding to comments Ms Dyson made in an interview with NZPA, Mr Bolger said: “She says the Budget was good. She must be living in dreamland if a Budget that provides for higher unemployment, higher taxes, and higher inflation is good. “As for her claim that nobody was left in any doubt as to what was going to happen in the next five years, I chal-
lenge her to explain exactly where the thousands of people who are being laid off in hospital services, the education system and in local government will find jobs in the next year.” At the same time, Mr Bolger said, Ms Dyson should explain where the Minister of Finance, Mr Caygill, was going to cut another $1 billion off Government spending to meet his target for reducing the deficit. “Those are the hard facts that she and the Labour Party are going to have to confront as soon as the brief honeymoon with their new leadership wears off,” he said.
