MAFFish, the fisheries business of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries is responsible for the conservation and management of New Zealand’s fish resources. One of the senior management positions in the business that is the Manager (Fisheries Information Centre) which is responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of and providing direction to an integrated information centre which provides for an efficient and effective information collection, storage, collation and dissemination service for MAFFish. The position also provides a management function over the central aspects of the quota management system. The appointee will assist in the implementation of Government fisheries policy in conjunction with Head Office and Regional Managers. The manager has reporting to him or her a systems analyst group, a catch and effort analysis group, a management support team and the Fisheries Surveillance group which provides observer coverage and transhipment coverage for the deepwater fishing fleet. Staff responsibilities of the Manager are 20 permanent and up to 80 on contract. Any appointee must have leadership qualities, ’ sound communication skills, both oral and written, | and a high level of personal motivation and enthusl- / asm. A working knowledge of fisheries management and the quota management system and tertiary f qualification or study towards such qualification and a knowledge and understanding of computer systems and statistical techniques are desirable.
