Oriental travel firm wins N.Z. acclaim

PA Auckland An Auckland travel agency started by a Hong Kong Chinese immigrant has become the first of its kind to win a Trade Development Board expert commendation.

The Mayor of Auckland, Dame Cath Tizard, presented the award to Jade Travel, which was started six years ago by Jimmy Wong. The firm brings about 10,000 visitors a year to New Zealand from SouthEast Asia and the northern orient. The award was made for the firm’s efforts in organising the first charter flight two years ago from Fukuoka in Japan to Auckland, which brought 300 Japanese visitors to the city.

The firm was also one of the key organisers of the present Fukuoka Expo, where New Zealand has a strong presence.
