Up with world’s best
David .Mitchell, a 17-year-old pupil at Shirley Boys’ High School, was in devastting form at the world wave ski-ing championships at Crystal Beach in Cornwall, England recently. ’ Mitchell was placed second in the open grade, and fourth in the junior competition. He
completed the two events in close succession and was apparently suffering from fatigue in the junior event. His outstanding form in the open gave him the edge to beat the current world champion, but another junior, Reese Duncan (Australia), pipped him for the open titlep
Wayne Nolan, also aged 17 and from Christchurch, finished nineteenth in the open and seventh in the junior competition. The pair will now travel to the European championships in France, and then to Bali for more competition, before travelling home.’
