Demise of golf four
The four players who shared the Stan Rich salver for the most wins in last year’s Woodward Cup premier inter-club golf competition have all met with at least one reversal after three rounds of this season’s competition. John Sanders (Christchurch) and Peter Maclachlan (Harewood) have had one loss, Ken Collett (Christchurch) has had a loss and a half, and Alastair Sidford (Harewood) has been beaten twice.
Two previous winners, Rick Vincent (Christchurch) and Fred Poskitt (Waimairi Beach) are among the 14 players unbeaten after three rounds — the fourth and fifth will be held at Templeton on Sunday — although Poskitt has had one half.
The only unbeaten No. 1 is the underrated Waimairi Beach golfer, Steven Greenall. Unbeaten players are:—
Three wins: Rick Vincent (Christchurch), Jeff Louwman, Martin Stanley (both Coringa), Stephen Street (Harewood), Jim Broadhurst (Russley), Ross Jones, Fin Hobbs (both Templeton), Steven Greenall (Waimairi Beach). Two wins and a half: Denis Cochrane (Coringa), lan Walsh (Harewood), Andrew Bishop (Templeton), Fred Poskitt (Waimairi Beach). One win and two halves: Gary Taylor (Russley), Lyndon Cron (Waitikiri). 808 SCHUMACHER
