New releases on display
The Christchurch furnishing show, “Furnishing ‘89,” hosted by McKenzie and Willis, brings together the most recent designs in furniture and furnishings.
More than 60 manufacturers and suppliers are displaying their products in the show which has become an annual event. Furniture of all kinds — dining, lounge, recliner, occasional, cane, leather, upholstery and curtain fabrics, carpet and furnishing accessories such as mirrors will be on show. To host the show, McKenzie and Willis has cleared its entire stock from the store. The show occupies the entire build-
ing and spills out into a marquee in the carpark.
“Our store is ideal for the show. We have a large building with two retail floors and the right atmosphere for a furniture show. The venue is comfortable and popular,” says Mrs Jean Cooper, the advertising manager for McKenzie and Willis and the show’s organiser. The show offers the public the chance to see furniture and furnishings in an authentic setting — a decorated room which people can immediately relate to their own home. “The ‘total’ look makes the show very successful,” says Mrs Cooper.
"People want to gather ideas so that they can form a plan for the complete decor of a room.”
The show is a manufacturers’ show. Manufacturers are invited to exhibit their products which are not all necessarily sold by McKenzie and Willis, although most are, says Mrs Cooper. Furnishing ‘B9 opens today and continues until Sunday, September 10. A special dispensation to allow the store to open on Sunday has been given. The hours are Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
