ATTEMPTED ROBBERY A man who asked an elderly woman if he could use her telephone tried to rob her once he was allowed inside. He knocked on the door of her St Martins home at 4.45 p.m. on September 3, but was asked to leave when the woman became suspicious. He produced a knife and demanded money. The woman grabbed his wrist and screamed. He ran off. He is described as European, aged 20 to 22, with brown eyes, black collar-length hair curly at back, and clean shaven. He had an earring in his right ear. He wore blue/grey denim jeans, grey jacket and light coloured sand-shoes. INDECENT ASSAULTS A woman was accosted near the railway tracks by Bellvue Avenue on August 24 at 4.40 p.m. The offender was a male European, aged 18 to 19, 165 to 168 cm tall, muscular-build, untidy dark brown collar length hair, brown eyes and was in need of a shave. He was wearing blue rugby shorts, a yellow singlet-type top with blue trim in the armband, and black rugby boots. On Friday, September 1, about 7 p.m., a woman, aged 19, walking through North Hagley Park near the croquet club, was grabbed, forced to the ground and indecently assaulted. The offender is described as a male Maori, aged 20 to 30 with dark hair, a sharp nose, and thin lips. He wore a purple nylon parka with a hood. REPAIR PROBLEM A former television repair man living in Kevin Street, Hoon Hay, has a problem. On Monday, September 4, a Philips K 9 colour television consul model was left on his varanda without owner details. The man is no longer in business and would like the owner to collect the set.
BURGLARIES A house in Burlington Street, Waltham, was burgled on August 25 and a Mitsubishi Black Diamond video, tapes and a Mitsubishi microwave oven stolen. The offenders are described as a male European, aged in his 20s, of slim build, 173 cm tall, collar length brown hair, clean shaven. The other is also a European male, aged in his 20s, of slim build with a slightly rounded face, shoulder length dark brown hair and moustache trimmed to corners of mouth. Both wore black jerseys and blue jeans. They were travelling in a metallic mid-brown coloured station wagon. A house in St Martins Road was burgled on August 25 and a Philips 14in colour television set, JVC video camera and portable unit, Sony mini component stereo system, two lumber jackets, compact discs and foodstuffs and liquor were stolen. A Sanyo television set, Sharp microwave oven, AIWA stereo walkman, Nikon camera and 3 sheepskin rugs were stolen from a flat in Grenville Street, Philipstown, on August 27. A house in Kellys Road, Mairehau, was burgled on August 27 and a JVC stereo system, National HiFi video recorder, Fujitsu General 19in colour television set, Sanyo telephone answering machine and Goldair electric fan heater stolen.
A television set, video and cash was stolen . from two houses in Harakeke Street, on August 31. The suspect is described as a male of Oriental appearance, aged in his early 20s, 178 cm tall, average build, short black straight hair, yellow complexion, wearing white trousers and light coloured top, possibly grey. He was with a dark headed male driving a white or off-white coloured Hillman Hunter car in rough condition.
