Correspondence School
Sir,—l wholeheartedly share Helen Van Zanten’s views and concerns (August 30) regarding
these “necessary” cutbacks in Correspondence School funding from the Department of Education. For thousands of adults the Correspondence School offers a second chance at education. It is education involving primary and secondary school curriculums, requiring year-long study at the least; no short-term courses and no hobby courses. So many people are prepared to undertake the task of furthering their education levels by reorganising their time schedules, using selfmotivation, heaps of effort and hard work. It seems unjust that these taxpaying/educatables be denied their endeavours to accomplish higher education. Education makes for better human understanding, relationships and harmony. For whatever reasons people use the Correspondence School, they should not be denied a second chance by the Department of Education. — Yours, etc.,
J. M. JACKSON. August 30, 1989.
