H.P. value increases

PA Wellington The value of hire purchase agreements signed in the quarter ended June 30 increased 1.7 per cent, compared to the same period last year, the Statistics Department says. The total value advanced under the quarter’s agreements, was $279.9 million, or an increase of $4.7 million compared to the same period last year. The total amount owed at June 30 was $1680.7 million, a decrease of $420.2 million, or 20 per cent, compared with the same date in 1988. The percentage of the amount owing which was overdue at the end of the quarter was 3.4 per cent, compared with 2.5 per cent the previous year. The department said its survey did not represent all hire purchase advances. Surveyed business represented about 79 per cent of the total recorded In the 1983 Census of Distribution.
