Employee admits theft

PA Auckland A Lynfield man has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $30,000 in cheques from his employer. In the District Court at Auckland on Friday, Scott Allen Ferguson, aged 26, an auditor, pleaded guilty to stealing the money between May, 1987, and May, 1989, while employed as a credit controller for the Ford Motor Credit Company, NZ, Ltd. The cheques were mainly refunds for customers who were not expecting a refund. Ferguson removed them from the outgoing mail and deposited them in his personal account, said Sergeant Keith Alford.

When questioned by the police, Ferguson allegedly said, "I was in debt and not very happy. I didn’t care.”

Judge Richardson remanded him on bail to October 6 for sentence.
