S.I. ski-ing conditions
South Island ski-field conditions, as reported to the New Zealand Snow Centre yesterday were (all facilities operating unless stated).— Mount Hutt: Base, 55cm; last fall, 15cm, August 30; packed powder, main runs groomed and vibrotilled; chains to be fitted.
Treble Cone: Ski-ing upper mountain and learners’ slopes only; chains to be carried.
Cardrona: Main trails groomed, bare patches lower slopes; chains to be carried. Nordic Ski Area: Closed. Harris Mountain Heii-ski: Operating subject to weather.
Coronet Peak: Closed until further notice.
The Remarkables: Base, 30cm upper, 20cm lower; firm snow at first, limited skiing; chains to be carried.
Mt Dobson: 8 to 10cm new snow; chains required. Mt Olympus: 10cm new snow; open to ski weekers only; chains to be carried.
Fox Glacier Good ski-ing 9000 to 4000 feet on packed powder, operating subject to weather; helicopter access only. Temple Basin: Base, 40cm; 40cm fall in last three days; packed and unpacked powder, downhill basin operating; goods lift operating tomorrow, Sunday. Mt Cheesman: scm fall;
open to ski weekers and members only; chains required.
Lake Tekapo: Closed until further notice.
Port Heights: Open subject to weather.
Craigieburn: Operating subject to weather; Bcm new snow at car park level. Mt Lyford: Open subject to weather, 20 to 30cm new dry powder.
Broken River: Open subject to weather, 10cm new snow.
Ohau: 2cm fresh snow; 18cm base at bottom, 33cm at top; chains required; learners’ tow, fixed grip and t-bar operational.
